Support Partner Opportunity (SSW or OT)

Seeking a confident, kind, energetic support partner for our son. Andrew is 16, happy, likes being outside, being active, with a love of nature and a cool disposition. He is nonspeaking autistic, very bright, and uses multiple means to communicate. He attends high school every day, part-time, and has expressed a desire to spend his afternoons with people other than “Mom and Dad”. We are seeking a 1:1 support partner for Andrew to hang out with.

Activities will include neighbourhood walks, hikes, community learning and safety (crossing streets, going into stores, option to take public transit), and other everyday tasks and engagements. Ideal candidate has a calm, confident nature; flexible; fun, youthful disposition with good stamina. Must presume competence in nonspeaking autistic individuals and be open to learning ways of connecting and communicating with nonspeakers.

The candidate will be trained by the family re: spending time with, communicating with, enjoying and supporting our teenager!

Details:
Part-time: 10-15 hours / week; flexible days/times
Location: North Toronto (Yonge St/YorkMills, south of 401) with opportunity for excursions across GTA via car or transit. (Gas and transit expenses covered. Driver's license & access to car an asset.)
Pay: $30/hour, 10-15 hours/week.
Qualification: Social Services Worker (SSW) or Occupational Therapist (OT)
