James C. Christensen (1942 – 2017) was an American illustrator and painter of religious and fantasy art. Christensen said his inspirations were myths, fables, fantasies, and tales of imagination. He employed many-layered medieval and Renaissance clothing, and hunched backs symbolizing the burdens people carry in life.
According to James Christensen, the man in the boat in “Passage By Faith” is one he calls the Everyman. His hump identifies him as an imperfect being, a symbol of human imperfections. Some are physical, others are of personality or character, but none of us is perfect. The world is crumbling a bit around our Everyman in his boat but he doesn't stop moving forward or become distracted by things that might pull him off course.
“Passage By Faith” is beautifully framed with a solid wood frame using the highest standards of museum framing – it is pocketed with acid-free suede Alpha mats (with wood fillet), acid-free foam-core backing, and museum glass (the highest standard of glass used in framing). Published in 2012, this PAPER PRINT is numbered 119/250. Includes Certificate of Authenticity. Pristine condition.
