CLC Teardrop Trailer
This is a really fun little trailer for those who want more comfort than a tent, but don't want the expense or hassle of a large trailer or fifth wheel. I'm selling the trailer with everything you need to go camping, just hook it up to your car and go! No more packing and unpacking all the gear you need or drying out a wet tent when you get home. You can literally have camp set up or put away in under 10 minutes. I built this in 2018 and it is in excellent condition. When not in use it's been stored in a heated garage.
The weight of the aluminum trailer and basic camper kit is approximately 650 lbs, with the extra's I've added and the accessory camping equipment it's likely close to 750 lbs. This makes is light enough to pull behind most cars, and the small size means you don't need extended sideview mirrors and it is not challenging to tow. In fact, it's light enough to move by hand on flat ground (making it easy to adjust its position at the camp site, or move around in your garage). The aero-dynamic shape and low height (6' to top of roof rack) have little effect on fuel economy. It also comes with a hitch extension and tree so that a bike rack can be placed between the vehicle and the trailer – no need to put your bikes on the roof or your car).
The trailer has 2 doors and the interior is the size of a queen size bed (mattress and bedding included). The interior has a roof top vent with fan, 2 additional wall mounted fans, 4 mushroom vents, a small shelf, 4 lights, various charging ports and a small electric heater. The interior headliner was installed (dark grey foam lining to insulate and reduce noise).
The kitchen galley was installed (to organize the dishes) and a strip of LED lights were added to the lid to help at night. There is enough space for the included portable propane stove and a small area to prepare food.
To the storage box I've added interior dividers so the BBQ could stand up (creates more useable space in the box) and to secure the 10 lb propane tank during transport. There is plenty of room in box for the BBQ/tank, small tool box, wheel blocks, extension cord, propane hose etc.
The electrical system has a deep cycle battery (installed behind the kitchen galley) which can be charged by connecting the trailer to a standard 110 volt outlet, or with the solar panel. The solar panel is not attached to the roof rack and has very long cables so it can be placed in the sun to change when the trailer is in the shade.
The roof of the trailer was constructed with 3 layers of fiberglass in order to support the Thule roof racks and whatever they may be carrying. To the roof racks I've added an ARB Touring Awning (brand new this year) which can be mounted to either side of the trailer depending on the configuration of the camping spot.
All of this sits on a Trailex SUT-1000 aluminum trailer with 12' wheels. This was built by Trailex specifically for the CLC tear drop trailer.
I built this from a kit I purchased through CLC (Chesapeake Light Craft). Their website is clcboats.com. All the technical information along with the cost of the various components can be found on the website. It took me just shy of 300 hours to build the trailer, over many months. The cost, in US dollars of the various kits from CLC: Basic kit ($3291), Storage box ($484), Galley ($395), Headliner ($385), Roof top vent ($295), Mushroom vents ($49), Roof Rack ($579), Trailex SUT-1000 CLC w 12” wheels ($2295). That totals $7772 USD ($10,800 Canadian Dollars). In addition, the electrical system (~$1000) the awning ($750) and the accessories ($500 minimum) brings the total over $12,000 CAD. CLC will build a trailer and sell it to you for $22,225 USD ($31, 700 CAD) and it won't include the electrical system, awning or accessories.
I'm asking $16,000, this includes:
Trailer
Awning
Everest 2 burner Propane Stove
Napoleon BBQ w 10lb propane tank and hose
Solar Panel
Hitch extension & tree (so you can have a bike rack between the trailer and the car)
Full set of kitchen supplies (plates, utensils, pots etc.)
I'm Happy to answer any questions or arrange a time for you to see it.
