FULL-TIME BARN HAND (SUBCONTRACTOR)

About the Facility
Willowcrest Equestrian Ltd. is a private hunter/jumper facility located just outside Calgary, Alberta. We operate a structured, professional program with a strong emphasis on horse welfare, consistency, and operational accountability. Our environment is quiet, organized, and built around high standards of care.
Position Overview
We are seeking a reliable and experienced independent subcontractor to support daily barn operations. This role is best suited to someone who is confident working independently, takes ownership of their work, and understands the level of detail required in a professional equestrian setting.
This is not a training role. Candidates must be capable of stepping in and maintaining established care standards from day one.
Schedule & Compensation
Schedule: Monday to Friday
Start Time: 7:00 AM
Compensation: $140 per day (invoiced monthly)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Independent Subcontractor
Scope of Work
The successful contractor will be responsible for, but not limited to:
Morning and daily feeding routines
Turnout and bring-in of horses
Blanketing, unblanketing, and general horse handling
Stall cleaning and barn upkeep
Water management (including monitoring automatic waterers)
Arena and property maintenance (as required)
Monitoring horse health and promptly reporting any concerns
Following structured task lists and completing assigned duties accurately
Maintaining cleanliness, organization, and safety across the facility
Expectations & Standards
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Strong attention to detail and consistency in routine
Professional conduct with staff, boarders, and management
Adherence to established barn protocols and schedules
Reliable attendance and punctuality (non-negotiable)
Respect for equipment and property
Work is expected to be completed correctly, efficiently, and without repeated instruction. Tasks are tracked and must be completed in alignment with operational standards.
Requirements
Proven hands-on experience working with horses in a barn environment
Confident handling a variety of horses safely and competently
Physically capable of performing manual labour in all weather conditions
Ability to follow direction and integrate into an established system
