1851-1853 Beautiful Original Old British Map of Northern India
Description
I'm selling an old original British map of Northern India. The map was made by The London Printing And Publishing Company around 1851-1853. The map was drawn and engraved by J.Rapkin. The illustrations were made by A.H. Wray and were engraved by J.H Kernot. The beautiful vignettes include: "tiger hunt", "ruins old Delhi", "Seal of the East India Company", "Car of Juggernaut", "The British Residency, Hyderabad" and "Hindoos". The map depicts British possessions, states under British protection as well as independent states at the time. In addition to Northern India, other places depicted include: Nepal, Bhutan, Burma and the Tibet region of China. The map measures 13 14/16 inches by 10 9/16 inches or 35.08 cm by 26.82 cm. The map is one sided and blank on the other side. It has a fold directly in the centre of the map from top to bottom which is how these maps were made as all of them will have a centre fold. The fold is due to the map originally being from an atlas that was published around the same time. All of the colouring of the borders as well as on the vignettes were done by hand. Also the map is gold gilded along the very edge of the paper. The frame it's in measures 16 4/16 inches by 12 5/16 and is metal with a plexiglass cover.
