GREAT FOR YOUR MAN-CAVE OR SHE-SHED!

This is a kerosene lantern used as a warning light for road construction. The design dates from 1940, before today's battery powered flashing lights were even heard of. The red bulls-eye fresnel lens is based on railway signal lanterns. It produces a strong warning light from a small flame. The Dietz name dates from 1953. As the Dietz company started making a version with a smooth globe lens in 1956, this lantern likely dates from 1953-56. Production of the No. 40 ceased in the 60s.
The letters C.E.D. embossed on the base tank stand for City of Calgary Engineering Department.
Put in a wick, add kerosene and it's ready to light up.
