**This is not a cash job. All applicants are required to have Social Insurance Numbers (SINs)

**Successful applicants will be working night shifts over the weekend, as well as during the week (Currently in need of Sunday overnight and Monday overnight, 11pm-7am). There might also be some infrequent day shifts. Night shifts are paid at a flat rate of $142.5 per night. Unfortunately, this rate is not negotiable due to client's involvement in the Direct Funding Program (this programs funds all hiring and staff related finances).

Job Overview

We are seeking healthcare professionals that are open to learning new skills, and looking to connect with a client one-on-one in the homecare setting. Successful applicants will be working with a single private client with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. This client is entirely reliant on others for all of her daily needs, and is looking for an applicant that is an excellent communicator, and ideally has experience as a PSW in a healthcare/homecare setting. The client is reliant on a ventilator, has a tracheostomy, and is also reliant on tube feeding. Necessary training will be provided to successful applicants in the home by family members.

Responsibilities

Assist clients with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, physiotherapy, repositioning, and transfer via Hoyer lift from bed to chair and back
Medication administration and nutrition through peg tube, as well as peg tube maintenance
Tracheostomy care, including suctioning and general maintenance
Perform light housekeeping tasks including cleaning, organization, and maintenance of safe and comfortable environment
Companionship to promote mental well-being
Communicate any changes in health or behavior to family and other employees
Respecting client dignity and preferences
Successful applicants will frequently be left alone with client, and will be expected to provide appropriate care on their own, such as brief changes, repositioning, and use of Hoyer lift.
Night shifts frequently involve observing client while she sleeps overnight, and providing care in the event of respiratory distress; a large portion of most nights is expected to be downtime
Skills

Prior experience as a PSW or other healthcare profession preferred, female applicant preferred
Strong caregiving skills and compassionate approach to client needs
Ability to perform brief changes, repositioning, and transfers safely
Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with client, as well as noting specific client preferences in different circumstances
Ability to handle cleaning duties efficiently while maintaining professionalism
Flexibility to adapt to different client needs and schedules
Willingness to learn and adapt to evolving situations
Situational awareness, problem solving, and sense of urgency in critical situations
Client is flexible with hours, and willing to work with successful applicants to accommodate preferences

Access to kitchen appliances and facilities

CPR certification is preferred

Nursing students are welcome to apply

Home is pet friendly (two cats)

Unpaid 30 minute breaks are required every 5 hours worked consecutively
