WHO WE ARE
Uncommon Cider Co. is Western Canada's first urban cidery. Our founder Brodie fell in love with full-juice cider in Cornwall, England, then came home to Calgary and started foraging neighbourhood apples to perfect his craft. That obsession with quality and local provenance is still the engine behind everything we make.

We are award-winning, boundary-pushing, and unapologetically community-rooted. We do not compromise on quality or customer experience. We need people on our market team who feel exactly the same way.

IS THIS YOU?
This role fits a specific kind of person, and we want to be upfront about that.

The ideal Uncommon market team member looks something like this:

You have spent time in the service industry, whether as a server, bartender, barista, or in retail hospitality. You know how to read a room, move efficiently, and make a stranger feel welcome in about thirty seconds flat. You do not need a script.

Or, you already have a weekday job or career you love, and you are looking for a weekend role that actually pays decently and does not feel like a compromise. You genuinely like craft beverage. You like talking to people. A Saturday morning at a farmers market surrounded by good food and curious customers sounds like a reasonable way to spend a day.

In both cases, you take pride in the product you represent, you show up on time and ready to work, and you understand that a market shift is not just a transaction, it is a brand moment.

THE OPPORTUNITY
You are the face of Uncommon Cider at Calgary's farmers markets. Every pour, every conversation, every sample you hand across the booth is a chance to convert a curious passer-by into a loyal cider drinker. This role is part ambassador, part sales driver, part logistics operator, and entirely essential to how we grow.

You will report directly to the Founders and work alongside a small, tight team. Hands-on, outdoors-and-on-your-feet. Not for everyone. Ideal for the right person.

SEASON & SHIFT SCHEDULE
Seasonal Structure
This posting is for our Summer and Fall season, running now through October 2026. We operate at Calgary's farmers markets across Thursday afternoons, Saturdays, and Sundays. You can pick up one, two, or all three days per week depending on your availability and our scheduling needs.
Winter and Holiday Season: We also run markets through Calgary's winter and holiday season. Those shifts and terms are managed as a separate seasonal engagement. If you are interested in continuing beyond October, we want to hear about that from the start.

Your typical week at market:
Thursday - Afternoon shift (approx. 2:00pm to 8:30pm)

Saturday - Full day (approx. 7:00am to 3:30pm)

Sunday - Full day (approx. 7:00 am to 3:30pm)

All times include set up and take down of booths at the market. You can work one, two, or all three days depending on your availability and our weekly scheduling needs. Consistent availability across multiple days is valued and prioritized in scheduling.

WHAT YOU'LL OWN
Customer Experience
- Create a welcoming atmosphere that draws people in and makes them want to linger - a warm booth is a busy booth
- Tell the Uncommon story with confidence, warmth, and genuine pride in the product
- Guide customers toward the right cider, flight, or gift using real product knowledge, not a rehearsed pitch
Pour samples with intention - the goal is a curious taster becoming a repeat customer

Sales & Revenue
- Actively engage foot traffic rather than waiting for customers to come to you - conversion starts with the first hello
- Upsell cases, mixed flats, and merchandise where it makes sense for the customer
- Handle all cash and card transactions with precision - accuracy on every transaction, every shift
Track what is moving and what is not, and communicate that to the team after each market

Inventory & Logistics
- Load product, booth, and materials from storage and transport to market safely
- Set up and break down the booth within agreed time windows and to market guidelines - our vendor relationships depend on us being reliable
- Return, unload, and restock to par levels after every market so the next shift is ready to go without scrambling
- Maintain a clean, organized, and food-safe booth environment throughout your shift

Product Knowledge & Team Communication
- Know our core and seasonal ciders: ingredients, tasting notes, story, and production methods
- Stay current on new releases and limited offerings so you can speak to them confidently
- Communicate proactively with the team - if something is low, broken, or off, say so
- Execute a clean shift handover every time so nothing falls through the cracks between you and the next person

WHAT YOU BRING
Valid ProServe certificate
Own vehicle, Class 5 licence, and a clean abstract
Consistent availability Thursday afternoons, Saturdays, or Sundays (or some combination)
Experience in hospitality, bartending, serving, or customer-facing retail
A genuine enthusiasm for craft cider and the people who make it
Strong communication skills and the ability to read a crowd
Self-starter energy - you do not need to be told twice
Comfort with point-of-sale systems and cash handling
The ability to lift and transport market equipment and product

COMPENSATION & PERKS
$24.00/hr plus tips, paid semi-monthly in arrears (approx. 8 hours per shift)
Discounts on cider and merchandise
Access to training, tastings, and industry events
Real growth potential as we expand our market presence across Calgary and the region
A tight-knit, creative team that genuinely cares about what they make

Our Commitment to Fair Pay
Craft and community are not just marketing words for us. We believe the people who represent Uncommon deserve to be compensated fairly for their time and energy. At $24/hr plus tips, this role is intentionally priced above the Alberta minimum wage and reflects what we think weekend, skill-based market work is actually worth.

We are actively thinking about fair compensation across our entire team as we grow, with the goal of moving toward liveable wage benchmarks for all roles over time. We are not there yet across the board, but we are working on it with intention.
