Description
We are seeking a dedicated Swine Technician to join our family farm team. We are a farrow-to-finish family hog operation. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the care, health, and well-being of swine on our farm. This role involves working closely with farm animals and performing various tasks essential to maintaining a productive and healthy environment for the animals. This job suits individuals who like to be active, have good attention to detail, like variety in their tasks, and are striving for continuous improvement.
Education
- Secondary (high) school graduation certificate
Experience
- 1 year to less than 2 years
On site
- Work must be completed at the physical location. There is no option to work remotely.
Work site environment
-Hog and pig farming ,dusty, noisy, odours, dirty

Work setting -Rural area
Responsibilities
Animal Care:
- Feed, water, and monitor pigs daily.
- Observe animal health and behaviour and report concerns
- Assist with moving and handling pigs safely and humanely.
- Process, and medicate piglets
- Detecting heat patterns in sows and performing artificial insemination
- Ensure animals are cared for in accordance with farm procedures and animal welfare standards.
- Monitor feed, water systems, and barn conditions.
- Monitoring and maintaining herd health and vaccinations
- Maintain quality control and production records
Barn Cleaning & Maintenance:
- Clean and maintain pig barns, pens, and work areas.
- Coordinating room preparation, washing, and disinfection between groups
- Support routine barn maintenance and repairs as required.
- Ensure equipment, tools, and supplies are organized and maintained.
General Farm Duties:
- Assist with day-to-day farm operations and seasonal tasks as required.
- Follow all workplace safety procedures and farm protocols.
- Perform other labour and maintenance duties assigned by management.
- Managing and utilizing Nedap ESF technology to monitor feed intake, animal performance, and sow condition.
- Ensure farm safety and bio-security procedures are followed
Additional information
- Work conditions and physical capabilities: Ability to work independently, fast-paced environment, physically demanding, attention to detail, standing for extended periods, repetitive tasks. walking
Skills:
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely (up to 50 pounds or more) regularly throughout shifts
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions precisely
- Effective communication skills for teamwork and reporting observations accurately
