Position: Fiber Optic Splicing Subcontractor
Location:Calgary, AB
About the Role
TechSavy is looking for an experienced fiber optic splicer to work as a subcontractor on ongoing projects in Calgary. This is a hands-on field role requiring precision, reliability, and strong technical know-how.
Responsibilities
- Fusion splice fiber optic cables (aerial, underground, and in-building)
- Test and certify splices/connections using an OTDR
- Troubleshoot and resolve signal loss or connectivity issues
- Read and follow splicing diagrams and work orders
- Document test results and submit reports as required
- Maintain splicing equipment and follow safety protocols on site
Requirements
- Proven experience with fusion splicing (single-mode fiber)
- Proficient with OTDR testing and interpreting traces
- Own splicing equipment preferred (splicer, OTDR, cleaver, tools)
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- Comfortable working at heights, in manholes, or confined spaces (as needed)
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
- Must be legally able to work as a subcontractor in Canada (own business number/WCB coverage an asset)
