VERY UNUSUAL 1914 SETH TOMAS SCIENTIFIC ? CLOCK W. & L. E. GURLEY

Hello & Welcome .Up for sale we have a very very unusual antique 1914 or so Seth Tomas clock .It’s mounted on a cast base mounted on a 19x16 wood base with a large rotating 16x4 stainless steel geared & belt driven cylinder sticking out the back... a very large heavy Device at 21.5 lb ..Please see photos...

The back is stamped W. & L. E. Gurley New York patented 1914 with a reg number ..They were one of the top US makers of Precision Instruments for surveying , scientific & industrial equipment & are still at it to this day ..Please see photos...

The clock is very close to a Seth Tomas ships clock but this is cased in a nickel plated case not brass like most ships clocks were ..Different .. The lg signed silvered dial looks great for 111 years old showing just a bit of age ..It has a speed adjustment at the top with a sub second hand dial and big spade hands .The nickel plated case is also still quite nice and shiny ..The only real flaw with the clock is the glass in the bezel is cracked ..Replaceable if you feel the need ...The key is attached to the base and sits in the key hole at the base did it do something at one time not sure it looks like it may have ?..Please see photos...

An 8 day clock double barrel main spring movement that looks & runs like the day it was made very clean ..It runs super smooth keeping very accurate time as you would expect from a high quality time piece ..Please see photos...

Now the big question what was it used for?....I have no idea ....Do You ?.please let me know
