Respite Worker Needed for 13-Year-Old

FSCD-Funded Position | $2,000/month

I am a single mom looking for a caring, reliable, and patient respite worker to support my 13-year-old daughter.

My daughter has epilepsy and complex care needs. She is a wonderful, funny, and energetic teenager. I am looking for someone who can provide attentive support while encouraging her independence, interests, and participation in activities she enjoys.

About the Position

The respite worker will provide one-on-one support and companionship for my daughter. An important part of the position during the school year is picking her up from school and driving her home, which is approximately a 40-minute drive.

Responsibilities may include:

Picking my daughter up from school and safely driving her home
Providing attentive supervision and companionship
Supporting her with activities she enjoys, including games, crafts, reading, technology, or other interests
Supporting community activities and outings
Encouraging independence and age-appropriate decision-making
Helping with daily routines and transitions
Preparing simple meals and snacks
Recognizing and responding appropriately to seizures
Following her established seizure and emergency care plan
Communicating with me about activities, concerns, and any changes
Maintaining a safe, calm, and supportive environment

Schedule

During the School Year

Monday: 2:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Tuesday: 2:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
The school-year schedule includes picking her up from school and driving her home.

During the Summer

Monday: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Tuesday: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Wednesday: 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Time Off & Holidays
Statutory holidays are days off.
One week of paid time off over the summer
Two weeks of paid time off over the Christmas holidays is guaranteed.
Additional time off may be discussed in advance.

Compensation

$2,000 per month through FSCD funding.
This is a consistent, ongoing position with a regular schedule that changes seasonally between the school year and summer.

Required Qualifications

Valid driver's licence
Reliable access to a personal vehicle
Clean and safe driving record
Ability to safely transport my daughter, including the approximately 30-minute drive from school to home
First Aid/CPR certification, or willingness to obtain it
Vulnerable Sector/Criminal Record Check as required
Willingness to complete training specific to my daughter's care needs
References required
