Bringing Home a Shih Tzu? Start Their Grooming Journey Now
Description
Those beautiful Shih Tzu coats come with something every new owner should know: grooming will be part of your dog's life from puppyhood through their senior years.
And one of the kindest things you can do is introduce it early.
A young puppy doesn't need to arrive for their first visit with a long coat and an urgent need for a haircut. Early grooming can simply begin the process of making unfamiliar things familiar—being handled, having little paws and faces touched, hearing grooming sounds, standing on a grooming table and learning that this is a safe place.
Those gentle early experiences can help build the foundation for a lifetime of grooming.
Adult Shih Tzus need regular coat care too, whether they're kept in a practical shorter trim or a longer style that requires more maintenance at home. Regular grooming helps keep their coat comfortable and gives us an opportunity to notice tangles, mats and other little changes before they become bigger problems.
And if you've welcomed an adult or re-homed Shih Tzu whose grooming history you don't know? That's okay. We begin with the dog in front of us and go gently from there. ❤️
Gentle Touch Grooming offers quiet, one-to-one grooming in my Kingston home for small and medium-sized dogs up to approximately 55 lbs.
There are no rows of waiting dogs and no busy salon atmosphere. Your dog receives my individual attention, patient handling and a grooming experience shaped around who they are.
Shy, nervous and senior dogs are very welcome.
