Antique victorian folding deck carpet chair 1890-1910
Description
This item is an antique Victorian Eastlake-style folding chair, often referred to as a carpet chair or campaign chair. Dating back to the late 19th century (circa 1890s–1910s), it is also known as a carpet bagger chair because carpet salesmen would display a sample of the carpet they sold on the chair! Sometimes it is also known as a Parlour chair.
This beautifully Victorian (in the Eastlake style) folding deck chair features a solid wood frame with original carpet on the seat and back, characteristic of this era and in great useable condition. It is in its original floral or avian-motif tapestry fabric framed with metallic upholstery tacks and decorated with a lower fringe along the front edge of the seat
With its curved arms and professionally restored original finish, this chair reflects classic Victorian/Eastlake design and craftsmanship. Often used as a steamer or veranda chair, it’s both functional and decorative.
The overall condition of this piece is great. It folds easily and is sturdy. This is a genuine antique (not a reproduction)
