For sale is an antique cast iron newspaper log roller with decorative brass panel. Newspaper log rollers were popular household tools from the late 19th through mid-20th century, designed to compress old newspapers into tight logs for use as fuel in fireplaces and wood stoves. This practice was especially common during the Great Depression and World War II when resources were scarce and recycling materials for heating was economical. The decorative brass panel on this example suggests it was meant to be both functional and ornamental, reflecting the Victorian and early 20th-century aesthetic of combining utility with decorative appeal.

These items appeal to collectors of vintage Americana, fireplace accessories, and early 20th-century household tools. They are valued for their historical significance as symbols of resourcefulness and self-sufficiency, as well as their rustic charm that fits well with farmhouse and industrial decor styles. Collectors of cast iron implements and those interested in Depression-era artifacts find these rollers particularly fascinating as tangible connections to a bygone era of North American domestic life.

Approximate measurements: 18” long X 12.25”H (to handle) X 8.5”D. Manual rotator is fully functional. Presented in fair overall condition (with wear consistent with age and use). A great collectible from an era long gone by. Use it for the outdoor fire pit and recycle some of those old newspapers!! Very cool item! Won’t see another like it!

Offered for sale at $65 (or best offer).
