Hypo allergenic/non shedding & active Purebred Dog. This is not a breed for every family but for the right families they make wonderful family pets.

Portuguese Water Dogs are an active, energetic, extremely bright and creative breed. They are not a dog to just lay by the fireplace and doze. This does not mean they are in constant activity in the home or "hyper". A properly exercised PWD certainly can understand "that's ENOUGH, now go lie down!" when need be. They seem to do well in homes with another, active dog, well behaved children over the age of 5 to 7 or, if a petless, childless home, people who are willing to go on walks, take them for a swim, play Frisbee, etc. It is a requirement of our puppy owners to take one set of Puppy classes and one set of basic Obedience training. Continuing on is recommended.

Our Baywood Portuguese Water Dog owners are the best! You can run into a Baywood dog at the Farmers Market downtown, doing Pet Therapy in the Stollery, going on hikes in the Rocky mountains, out at the family lake lot or just walking with their family down the street. We encourage responsible pet ownership and encourage our owners to keep their dogs active and engaged. Throughout the year we have many recommended dog classes as well as, Baywood events including trying new dog sports or our Annual Christmas Party!
