About the Opportunity
We are developing a proprietary technology platform, with the frontend user interface nearing completion. We are seeking an experienced software engineer to lead or support backend development, database architecture, and the integration of the platform's core systems.
The ideal candidate has broad software development experience, with particular strength in database programming, backend infrastructure, and building secure, scalable applications.

This is an opportunity to contribute to an evolving technology platform, working with an existing frontend and helping establish the backend infrastructure required for production deployment.

Responsibilities
• Design, develop, and optimize database architecture and data structures.
• Build backend services, application logic, and APIs.
• Integrate backend functionality with the existing frontend.
• Develop data-processing workflows, imports, and validation procedures.
• Optimize database performance, reliability, and scalability.
• Implement authentication, authorization, and appropriate security controls.
• Test, troubleshoot, and improve overall platform functionality.
• Review existing code and recommend improvements to architecture and development practices.
• Assist with deployment, ongoing maintenance, and production readiness.

Required Experience
• Strong experience in backend software development and relational database programming.
• Proficiency with PostgreSQL or comparable database technologies.
• Advanced SQL, database design, indexing, and query optimization.
• Experience with Python, Node.js/TypeScript, or similar backend technologies.
• Experience building APIs and integrating frontend and backend systems.
• Understanding of application security, data integrity, and performance optimization.
• Ability to work independently, assess existing code, and deliver practical solutions.

Additional Experience Considered an Asset
• Full-stack development experience across frontend, backend, and database layers.
• Experience with modern frontend frameworks and existing UI integrations.
• Data engineering, large-scale data processing, and ETL workflows.
• Cloud infrastructure, deployment pipelines, and production monitoring.
• Experience taking an existing application through testing, launch, and ongoing development.

Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a practical, technically strong developer who can work across multiple areas of software development while bringing particular expertise to the backend and database layer.
The successful candidate should be comfortable working with an existing codebase, identifying what remains to be completed, and helping move the platform toward a secure, stable, production-ready release.
Full-stack capabilities are an advantage, but strong backend and database development skills are the priority.
