For sale is an antique three tier “Globe Wernicke” barrister bookcase. Globe Wernicke barrister bookcases originated in Cincinnati, Ohio, in the late 1890s and became the gold standard for modular stacking bookcases. These ingenious designs featured individual sections with sliding glass doors that could be stacked and reconfigured, making them ideal for lawyers, doctors, and professionals who needed flexible, dust-free storage for valuable books and documents. The quarter-sawn oak construction and distinctive lift-up glass doors became iconic features of North American office furniture during the early 20th century.

These bookcases are highly prized by antique furniture collectors and interior designers for their exceptional craftsmanship, historical significance, and timeless aesthetic appeal. The modular design remains practical for modern homes and offices, while the warm golden oak patina and classic styling add character to libraries, studies, and professional spaces. Globe Wernicke pieces are particularly valued for their superior construction quality compared to competitors like Macey and Shaw-Walker, making them sought-after investments in the antique furniture market.

Approximate measurements: 47.5”H X 34”W X 9.75”D. Presented in very good overall condition (with minor wear consistent with age and use). Note that the top shows lifting (common among pieces of this age). Glass doors open and close accordingly. Glass is intact with no breaks, cracks, or repairs. A functional piece for your books or to display your favourite treasures! Rare offering.
