Pediatric Health Care Aide – Respite Support

Hiring: Pediatric Health Care Aide – Respite Support (Edmonton & Area) – $17.20/hr - $20/hr
Prairie Med Community Services is hiring experienced Health Care Aides (HCAs) to support children and youth (ages 0–18) with complex medical and developmental needs in home and community-based respite settings.
This role is not entry-level. We are specifically seeking candidates with pediatric and special needs experience.

Respite care environments
Core Responsibilities
Provide hands-on personal care (ADLs) including hygiene, feeding, and mobility support
Provide support for pediatric with medical needs
Support children with autism, developmental disabilities, and complex needs
Deliver behavioural and emotional support using a trauma-informed approach
Follow individualized care plans and safety protocols
Assist with medication administration (when trained and delegated)
Support life skills development and structured routines
Maintain professional communication with families and care teams
Required Qualifications
Health Care Aide Certificate or equivalent relevant experience
Must be registered in the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory (or eligible/actively pursuing registration)
Minimum 1 year hands-on experience with pediatric clients (ages 0–18)
Proven experience working with children with diverse abilities and/or special needs
Strong understanding of trauma-informed care and behavioural support
Additional Requirements
Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector) and Child Intervention Check
First Aid & CPR (or willingness to obtain immediately)
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation preferred
Willingness to complete mandatory training (online and in-person)
Schedule
Casual, flexible shifts:
After school hours
Evenings & weekends
Overnight shifts (as needed)
